Additional Information: | This historic farmstead is set 0.25 miles south of CR E east of Spooner Road. The historic house is set amongst dense tree cover, further obscuring views. Two historic farm buildings are set along the west side of the property, and three large modern metal buildings are set to the south. The house is representative of a late nineteenth/early twentieth-century cream-brick residence that is typical for the local area, though many details could not be discerned from the roadway. The cream brick Gabled Ell house has a side-gable 2-story section, along which the entrance is set. The front gable end-wall has tripartite windows on the first floor and two narrow sash windows upstairs. The foundation is stone and the walls are cream brick. Windows have wide wood surrounds.
In the 1899 county plat book, this 109-acre parcel was owned and homesteaded by Fred Hardtke. In 1919 it was owned by Herman Hardtke. This farmstead is present in the 1937 aerial photo, including the house, two barns, and a small garage. The house, garage, and two northern barns retain their original footprints. The machine shed west of the house was built sometime before 1954 and enlarged before 1980. The pole barn on the far west side was built between 1986 and 1996. The large machine sheds at the south end of the property were built ca. 1996-2005 and ca. 2008-2010.
