Additional Information: | This historic farmstead stands on the east side of CR D, south of CR E. It is set more than 400 feet from the road and is surrounded on all sides by mature tree cover. Other historic-age structures are on the property, but views were obscured and they were not inventoried.
This cream brick Gabled Ell house has a side-gable 2-story section, along which there is a screened porch at the entrance and a central wall dormer rising above the second-floor windows. The 1.5-story front-gable bay is set off the south end. The foundation is stone, the walls are brick, and the roof is clad in metal. Aerial photographs indicate the house has undergone several additions. The metal roof and synthetic windows are modern replacements and the porch has been altered. The house is representative of a late nineteenth/early twentieth-century cream-brick residence that is typical for the local area.
In the 1899 county plat book, this 86.67-acre parcel was owned and homesteaded by Franz Fredrich. It was owned by Frank Fredrich in 1919. This farmstead is present in the 1937 aerial photo. Since then, the house has undergone large additions and at least three barns and outbuildings were razed. The current machine shed, garages, and other outbuildings were not yet built.
