Additional Information: | This house stands on the south side of N. Biron Drive and is the only house on the block bounded by Biron, Fox Street, and Short Street. The 1-story bungalow is rectangular in plan and has a low-pitched hipped roof with wide eaves. The front of the house has a central low-pitched gabled dormer. The west half of the hipped roofline projects somewhat over the front entrance. The front of the house is asymmetrically composed and has faux brick cladding along the base: the east half of the façade has a single sliding window. The north half is set beneath the projecting roof; the central front door is offset by a pair of large windows. An identical pair of windows are set around the corner. A concrete stoop leads to the front entrance, while a secondary door is set on the west side with a modern wood deck with overhead shed roof. The windows, doors, and synthetic lap siding are all modern replacements, but the house retains much of its original form and retains a fair amount of integrity. It appears the 2-car garage set in back along the alley is original to the house. The 1957 aerial photograph shows that this and surrounding blocks were occupied by small, similarly massed houses that had been constructed earlier in the century for workers of the paper plant. By 1966, many of those houses had been razed and replaced with larger modern houses. This house and its neighbor to the west were built between 1957 and 1966, and assessor records confirm it was built in 1965. Between 1998 and 2005, all but two houses on this block were razed. This has been the only extant house on the block since before 2008. |
