Additional Information: | 2021: Milwaukee Fire Station 22 houses Engine 22 and was constructed 1952. It is a Contemporary style building that has a mostly rectangular footprint, concrete foundation, walls constructed of brick, and a flat roof. The projected entrance bay is located on the northwest elevation and clad in lannon stone. It has a flat roof that rises higher than the main roof. A flat, metal canopy is projected above the main entrance and supported by groups of simple, metal posts. The entrance contains a modern door with sidelights. There is a tall, glass block window centered above the entrance on the second story. A one-story bay with a rounded corner extends from the intersection of the main entrance and engine entrance. The rounded corner is further accented by a large, glass block window. The engine entrance is located on the southwest elevation; it is recessed with rounded sides and topped by a small, flat canopy. Fenestration includes one-by-one, metal windows that open outward and are set within recessed concrete block panels. Engine Company No. 10 (AHI #230748), which is nearly identical to Station 22, has ribbons of windows that are flush with the facade, and it is therefore a more intact example of the design. |
