Additional Information: | 2023: This one-story, Contemporary style commercial building was constructed as a gas station in 1959 by the Clyman Oil Company. The building is constructed of concrete block and has a rectangular footprint consisting of two flat roof sections, one slightly taller than the other. The shorter of the two sections has widely overhanging eaves and contains the main entrance adjacent to a canted, corner, plate glass window. The taller section contains two garage service stalls with modern, overhead rolling doors. There is signage across the frieze, including one reading “Sommers Outdoor Equipment & Auto Care.” The building was originally operated as John’s 66 Station, a full-service filling station and auto repair shop. It was renamed multiple times, becoming Clyman Oil Service in 1972. Acting manager Dean Elske began to repair small-engine equipment shortly after. In 1986, the pumps were shut off and the building became solely a repair shop. |
