NOTES
Additional Information:The Lincoln Playfield is a four-sided trapezoid with a wide south boundary along West Lincoln Avenue and a narrow north boundary. The park consists of 6.32 acres at the northwest corner of West Lincoln Avenue and the Kinnickinnic River; the width of the park tapers toward to the north boundary along the bank of the Kinnickinnic River. The primary entrance to the park is via paved pedestrian paths from West Lincoln Avenue. Basketball courts are at the southwest corner of the playfield; tennis courts are at the southeast corner. A baseball diamond is along the west boundary north of the basketball courts and the north and east portion of the playfield are open lawn for the outfield. The Lincoln Fieldhouse (245461) is centered between the two athletic courts and the baseball diamond. Aerial imagery indicates the baseball diamond was the first athletic field and was constructed by 1937 and that the fieldhouse was at least under in 1937. A date stone on the south elevation of the fieldhouse indicates it was completed by the Works Progress Administration in 1939. Aerial imagery also indicates that a two-story wood-frame dwelling was demolished between 1937 and 1951 for the construction of the extant basketball court southwest of the fieldhouse. The tennis courts were constructed during the same period as well as paved pedestrian paths between the athletic courts and the fieldhouse. The spatial layout and circulation paths have remained predominantly the same since 1951. Alterations presumably consist of replacing or adding the existing chain link fence, resurfacing of the athletic courts, and installation or replacement of the overhead lights.
