Additional Information: | Vernon Drake was born in Billings, Montana in 1922. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, serving as a bomber pilot in Burma and China. After the war, he worked as a draftsman in the office of Chandler Cohagen, who encouraged him to enroll in the School of Architecture at Montana State University. He graduated in 1948 and worked in a series of offices until 1956 when he partnered with F. Wayne Gustafson. Drake, Gustafson, and Associates went on to become one of the leading firms in the mountain west region of the United States, designing schools, churches, commercial buildings, and especially banks. |
