NOTES
Additional Information:Information from the 2022 WisDOT survey report: Topped with a hipped roof, this Ranch house (1952) is sheathed with brick, while board siding covers the gabled peaks over both the south projecting wing and the garage on the north. The central portion of the house carries a large, wood-framed, tripartite picture window, the outer units of which are two-over-two-light, double-hung sash. A low, brick-constructed planter box wall with stone trim extends in front of the window, while a smaller planter box delineates the north side of the doorway, which is topped with a gabled overhang with knee brace supports. The front-facing gabled projection on the south carries a pair of two-over-two-light, double-hung sash that are flanked by shutters. This house was built by the Schnick Construction Company at an estimated cost of $20,000 and completed sometime in 1952. The home’s first confirmed owners/occupants were Harry and Thelma Le May as of 1954-55. LeMay--who was the retired vice president of the Frederick Post Company, an engineering and architects supply company--died in 1956, just one year after moving to Belleair, Florida. The next owner of the house was Harry C. and Victoria Goetz.
Bibliographic References:Citations for the 2022 WisDOT survey report information below: Original building permit application for 8335 N. Lake Drive, 14 December 1951, original owner: C. Schnick, Builder: Willie Schnick, est. cost, $20,000; U.S. Federal Census, Population, 1950; Whitefish Bay-Fox Point Directory, 1954-55; Whitefish Bay-Fox Point Directory, 1956-57; “Harry A. LeMay,” Obituary, The Tampa (FL) Tribune, 30 December 1956, 18. The entrance (east) elevation drawing of the house does not show the bracketed gabled roof overhang, it depicts a garage door that included windows and the windows of the house are one-over-one-light sash. Because the Schnicks operated a construction company, it is possible that the elevation in the property file was simple a base plan; however, the bracketed gabled overhang is rather uncharacteristic of a Ranch house.
