NOTES
Additional Information:Information from the 2022 WisDOT survey report: This two-story, side-gabled, 1960s Contemporary-style house has an attached one-story, side-gabled garage. The first floor, including the garage, is covered with stone veneer, while the upper level is sheathed with board and batten and horizontal wood siding. A shed-roofed open porch shelters the double-door entrance, along with a large window. Windows, which are regularly placed throughout the house, appear to be either casement or slider examples. Constructed by the Arthur R. Patch Co., this house was built in 1963 for Dr. Lewis and Rosalyn Bernstein at an estimated cost of $30,000. Dr. Bernstein was the chief of Psychology services at Milwaukee’s Veteran’s Administration Center. Sometime between 1968 and 1972, the Bernsteins sold the house to Dr. Frederick and Sylvia Tavill. Dr. Tavill was born in Manchester, England, and graduated from the University of Manchester in 1949. From 1954 to 1968, he served with the Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and, in 1955, he was appointed Heath Center Director in Shiraz, Iran. From 1957 to 1959, he served as the Medical Director of Tehran’s Jewish Hospital and Health Center and, from 1960 to 1967, he was the Country Medical Director in Casablanca, Morocco. While living in the Fox Point home, he was on the faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Although the Tavills divorced in 1979, they both maintained ownership and they sold the house jointly in 1984.
