NOTES
Additional Information:Information from the 2022 WisDOT survey report: This one-and-one-half-story, front-gabled bungalow (c1926) is sheathed with stucco and features battered walls. The round-arched, wood-and-glass entrance door is located left (south) of a central, three-sided bay window. A round-arched, multiple-light casement window completes the east façade’s first floor. The upper half-story--which is set off from the first floor by an overhanging pent that extends to form a roof over the bay window below--is covered with wooden shingles and carries a pair of double-hung sash flanked by shutters and embellished by a bracketed, wooden flower box. Although not seen on the photo, a shed-roof dormer rises from the north plane of the roofline. Although aluminum siding was applied to the house in 1961, it was removed and the stucco/plaster was restored in 2001. Although no original building permit exists for home, assessor’s information cites a 1926 date of construction and the original owners are believed to be William E. and Mary (L’Estrange) Smith, who married in 1917. William was born in Mazomanie, Wisconsin in 1876 and, by no later than 1917, he worked for the post office in Milwaukee. The Smiths resided in the home until circa 1942 when William retired from the postal service and they moved to Palmyra. From circa 1942 to circa 1948, the house was owned by Michigan-born Earle M. Feldt and his wife Kathryn. By 1950, the house was owned by John and Wally Piscuine.
