| Additional Information: | This 2-story Commercial Vernacular building was constructed in 1902 with an extension of the storefront completed in 1956. The building is rectangular in plan with brick walls and a flat roof. The front elevation faces west and is asymmetrical in composition. The storefront has been reclad in mid-century buff-colored brick with entry doors located in the center of the west elevation; the walls on each side of the two entry doors originally held larger shop windows, but these spaces have been infilled with composition board siding and downsized single-pane windows. The storefront is sheltered under a metal awning. The building features a cutaway northwest corner that historically contained the front entrance; the entrance has been replaced by a glass block window. An iron lintel spans the cutaway corner and the original portion of the storefront along the west elevation. A date “1902” date stone has been lost from its original located above the second story window in the cutaway corner. The second story contains regularly spaced 1-over-1 windows. A decorative cornice wraps around the north and west elevations and features dentil detailing and heavy brackets at corners and ends with smaller brackets between these; decorative finials project above the heavy brackets. A secondary storefront is located at the eastern end of the north elevation. |
