Additional Information: | This Twentieth Century Commercial power plant was constructed c.1920 by Wisconsin Power and Light and was converted for use as the village library in 1953. It is L-shaped in plan with red brick walls and an asphalt-shingled gable roof. The building is comprised of the original rectangular building mass (which features T1-11 siding under the gable); a c.1992, front-gabled addition to the front elevation (which features a decorative bargeboard along the gable); and a c.2015 side-gabled addition to the west (side) elevation. The front elevation faces south and is asymmetrical in composition with a single metal door and a small 1-over-1 window in the c.1992 mass and two small 1-over-1 windows in the c.2015 mass. Each wall of the original building mass is ornamented with a large rectangle outlined in brick with contrasting stone blocks at each corner. The east elevation of the original building mass contains two infilled window openings with stone sills and brick surrounds with contrasting stone blocks at the upper corners. One of these window openings contains a downsized single-pane window while the other has been completely infilled with brick. All electrical generating equipment was removed from the building in 1952 by Wisconsin Power & Light prior to transfer of the building’s ownership to the Village of Blanchardville. |
