Additional Information: | The McGowan House property (see AHI 14844) also contains the relocated Niebull School which was constructed in 1897 in the Town of Big Flats in a vernacular Front Gabled form. This is a one-room schoolhouse with clapboard walls and a metal-clad gable roof. The front elevation faces east and is symmetrical in composition with a single door at the center of the elevation. The wood panel door has glazing in its upper half and features a 3-pane transom above. A sign board reading “NIEBULL” is mounted above the transom. Regularly-spaced 2-over-2 windows are located along the side elevations. A small, open bell tower is located at the rear end of the building over the roof peak. This building was relocated to the Adams County fairgrounds in 1964 and relocated again to its current location in 2002. |
