Additional Information: | Surveyed 2021: The Lull-Abi Inn is located on the east side of STH 42 and generally faces west northwest. Given the curvature of the roadway at that location, its setback is between about 70 and 90 feet. Regarding the motel in general, this is a linear facility, all of which is sheltered by a standing seam, metal roof and its different levels. Additionally are the motel sections to the north and south sheathed with clapboard-like aluminum or vinyl siding. All first floor rooms are accessed directly by outside doors, whereas hallways above provide access to the second floor rooms, all of which have small balconies. The inn is comprised of three distinct components, the owner/manager living quarters in the center and motel sections to the south and north. The former is the oldest part of the complex. Constructed of brick, it is a single story, Ranch-type section with a front door flanked by a double-hung-sash to the left (north) and a projecting, three-sided picture window to the right (south). To its right (south) is a projecting gable that shelters an entryway that is thought to access the second floor rooms to the south. Given the nature of the roof at this location, it appears a split-level component. This section looks to have two or three first floor and three second floor rooms. The south side of this component’s south endwall also has an outdoor stairway that accesses the second floor. Extending to the north of the central living quarters is the largest building section with rooms. It is a side gable structure with modest eves. To the right (south) of its center, facing the road, is a gabled wall dormer that acknowledges the location below of an outdoor walkthrough that permits getting from one side of the structure to the other. The Lull-Abi Motel was opened in 1953 by Roland and Connie Woldt. It had six guest rooms in 1956. An expansion was reported in 1962, though the number of rooms added was not. The Woldts apparently devoted time to other business as well, a fact noted when it was reported in 1964 that they had moved into Egg Harbor to both manage and live at the motel. Roland died in 1974 and Connie remarried in 1976. She continued for a time to operate the motel, though she subsequently sold it. Connie died in 2018. It is thought likely that subsequent additions occurred after the motel left the Woldt family. |
