Additional Information: | This small one-story Contemporary office building was constructed in 1940 with a remodeling of the façade in 1956. It is freestanding and rectangular in plan with buff-colored brick walls and a flat roof with a narrow band of metal coping along the roofline. The front elevation faces north and is asymmetrical in plan with a recessed, metal-framed glass door and a pair of single-pane fixed-sash windows arranged in a horizontal band. Side and rear elevations are of concrete block construction. This building was constructed in 1940 for Winfield Christopherson to serve as an insurance office. Christopherson remodeled the street façade of the building in 1956 to its existing appearance. Christopherson continued selling insurance at this location until his death in 1968. Under the new ownership of Elmer and Marcella Kastenschmidt, the building continued to serve as an insurance office until Elmer Kastenschmidt’s death in 1997. From 1997 to 2015, the building remained in use as an insurance office under two different owners. Both Winfield Christopherson and Elmer Kastenschmidt served terms as village mayor and as director of the Farmers State Bank, among numerous other civic positions. |
