NOTES
Additional Information:01/2021: The property includes a ca. 1910 two-story cube dwelling (a), three ca. 1910 bank barns (b-d), and two non-historic-age outbuildings. The highly-altered dwelling (a) has undergone multiple phases of addition and alteration that obscure its original form, fenestration pattern, and architectural details. The dwelling (a) features a gabled addition across the primary façade that obscures the original entry and a large non-historic-age rear garage addition. It has an asphalt-shingled hipped roof with deck, an exterior brick chimney, replacement vinyl siding, replacement vinyl windows, and replacement doors.

The barns appear to be contemporary to the dwelling. Resource b has a replacement gambrel metal roof, vertical wood board siding, and a stone foundation. The barn features an open entry bay, a single fixed window, and a shed appendage with corrugated metal siding. The second bank barn (c) has a replacement standing-seam metal gambrel roof with two cupola roof vents, vertical wood siding, and a stone foundation with multi-light windows. The open bay includes a pair of hinged doors and is accessed by a ramp. Resource (d) is a barn with a gambrel roof and hay hood. It features a metal roof, vertical wood siding, and three large openings on the northern elevation. No other details of the resource were discernable from the public ROW. The property includes active agricultural fields, but the barns do not appear to be in current agricultural use.

According to the 1914 and 1918 Grant County Plat Maps, Henry Chase owned the property (Geo. A. Ogle & Company 1918; Kenyon Company 1914). The property was adjacent to a school to the east, identified on the 1914 Plat Map as “School No. 5.” (Kenyon Company 1914). The presumed dwelling (a) is included on the 1918 Plat Map (Geo. A. Ogle & Company 1918). Review of historic aerial imagery revealed that Resources (a-d) are visible on 1955 aerial imagery and on a 1962 Lancaster quadrangle map (NETR 2020; USGS 1962).
