Additional Information: | 01/2021: The property includes a ca. 1920 basement barn (a), a ca. 1950 Quonset-hut barn (b), and a ca. 1920 side-gabled barn (c), associated with a collapsed dwelling and a non-historic-age shed. The multi-height barn (a) features a metal gothic-arched roof, vertical wood cladding, and a concrete perimeter wall foundation with small, fixed metal windows and a single door. The primary façade features an open bay entry associated with animal corral and at least two hay portals. The Quonset-hut barn (b) includes metal siding and a large pair of sliding bay doors on the primary (northeastern) façade. Resource (c) is a multi-height barn currently used for equipment storage with an asphalt-shingled side-gabled roof, vertical wood siding, and a concrete perimeter lower level. There are two fixed window units on the upper level, and two single garage bays on the lower level. Other details were not visible from the public ROW. The collapsed house associated with the remnant agricultural resources appears on the 1900, 1904, and 1908 Lancaster quadrangle (USGS 1900, 1904, and 1908). The property was owned by H. Gingrich according to the 1914 Grant County Plat Map and in 1918 by Mrs. H. Gingrich according to the 1918 Grant County Plat Map (Geo. A. Ogle & Company 1918; Kenyon Company 1914). The presumed dwelling is depicted on the 1918 Plat Map (Geo. A. Ogle & Company 1918). The dwelling and three outbuildings are depicted on the 1962 Lancaster quadrangle (USGS 1962). Historic aerial imagery indicates the presence of the basement barn (a), Quonset-hut barn (b), and side-gabled barn (c) on the 1955 aerial as well as at least two additional no-longer-extant outbuildings (NETR 2020). The collapsed dwelling was still extant as of 2017 aerial imagery (NETR 2020). |
