Additional Information: | LaVerne Lantz was born in Milwaukee in 1929 and earned a degree in industrial arts. Lantz taught architectural drafting at Custer High School in Milwaukee and began a small architectural practice in the late 1950s. In 1961, he and his wife Molly constructed a self-designed house in Delafield. The house was published and highlighted in Milwaukee Journal in 1965 and his work became increasingly popular leading to over 150 residential commissions. He worked from his home office, usually on his own, from 1961 to 1997. His work, which can mainly be found in the suburbs of Milwaukee and southeast Wisconsin, took inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian period and Lantz often referred to organic design. His work often incorporated geometric organizations, mid-century modern design, and passive environmental methods. Lantz died in 1998. |
