Additional Information: | This 2-story Tudor Revival house was built c.1913 as a gatehouse or guest house for the associated Henry M. Thompson House (AHI# 48074, which currently serves as the Wisconsin Institute for Torah Study). The building is irregular in plan with limestone walls and a multi-gable roof clad in slate with copper caps along the peaks. The overhanging roof eaves feature shaped rafter ends with similarly shaped bargeboards and wood beam supports under the gables. An entrance at the southwest corner of the building is recessed under the main roofline; within the recess is an entry porch with a Tudor arch entry in its southern wall and a Tudor arch window opening in its western wall. Windows throughout appear to be 1-over-1. A front-gabled wall dormer is located along the southern elevation, near the southeastern corner, and features a gabled parapet with heavy stone coping. Stepped stone buttresses are located at prominent corners. The building is located on the expansive grounds of the Henry M. Thompson House (AHI# 48074). 2022: No changes. gatehouse |
