The Northwestern State Bank was built in 1966. The building is one story in height, roughly square in plan, and clad in brick and insulated panels with a flat roof. The front elevation is asymmetrical and anchored by the curving wall of the entry bay. The entry bay contains tall fixed windows and two entry doors. The base of the entry bay has a built-in brick planter, and the entry bay is capped by a flat canopy supported on a brick wing wall on its north end. The canopy, like the other parapet coping on the building, is clad in polished metal. The curved wall of entry bay continues above the canopy, where it is clad in insulated panels that continue the rhythm of the windows and doors below. The portion of the elevation north (right) of the entry bay steps back in plan and contains fixed-light windows with insulated panels above. The south (left) portion of the elevation does not contain any windows, but consists of a lower projecting building volume, clad in panelized brick with 4”-wide stucco vertical joints; and a taller building volume clad in variegated brick. A flat-roofed drive-through canopy, supported on round steel posts, is located on the south (left) end of the building. The front wall of the drive-through canopy is curved, to echo the entry bay, and appears to be clad in stucco. The drive-through canopy also has a central round skylight with a fiberglass dome.

The Northwestern State Bank was chartered in 1929. In 1934, it absorbed the holdings of the failing State Bank of Cumberland and moved into that institution’s building at 1375 2nd Ave. In 1965, the Northwestern State Bank began construction on this building one block north, at 1485 2nd Ave., on the site of the former Hotel Cumberland. The building remains in use as a bank.
