Additional Information: | Surveyed in July 2020 by UWM-CRM as part of the WisDOT USH 63 reconstruction project. This one-story Contemporary-style commercial building was originally built around 1920. Its current appearance probably dates to c. 1960. The front elevation is three bays wide. A projecting, flat-roofed aluminum canopy spans the full width of the elevation. The lower portion of the elevation is clad in artificial stone, and the side bays each have a half-height projecting bay (suggestive of planter walls in houses of the same time period) topped with a recessed, single-light picture window. The center bay has a recessed glass entry door with vertical board surrounds. The top portion of the building, above the aluminum canopy, retains its pre-WWII appearance, with a brick parapet consisting of panels interspersed by piers. The elevation is capped with a corbeled brick cornice and a cast stone coping. The side walls of the building are clad in painted brick. The original window openings have been reduced in size through brick and glass block infill, although the original window openings and cast stone sills remain intact. The side wall roof parapets step downward in stages towards the rear and are capped with glazed tile copings. |
