Additional Information: | Surveyed in July 2020 by UWM-CRM as part of the WisDOT USH 63 reconstruction project. The building was constructed in 1979 as part of a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) realignment plan that established a new area office in Cumberland. The State Building Commission allocated $197,000 for the construction of the new building. Construction was complete in late summer of 1979. The building is one story in height, rectangular in plan, and is clad in vertical boards on the front façade and exposed concrete structure and concrete block on the side elevations. The roof consists of multiple shed roofs: one large roof slopes downward towards the front (2nd Ave.) façade, and another large roof slopes downward towards the rear of the building. The two roof planes do not meet, however; instead a narrow gabled roof, with its ridge perpendicular to the front and rear roofs, is located across the center of the building. The complex roof form is mirrored in the side walls of the building, where the narrow opposing gable is expressed as a recessed slit in the larger gabled walls. The front façade has an off-center recessed entryway containing an entry door and a group of six vertically-oriented windows. Two groups of horizontally-oriented clerestory windows are located on either side of the entryway. |
