NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This was the location of a grist mill and dam (1856). Over the years the dam was reinforced or reconfigured in response to damage from flooding. In 1928, a catastrophic flood swept away the mill and the dam; that year, Wisconsin Power and Light rebuilt the dam and constructed the power house. 2021: This small power plant was constructed in 1928. It is rectangular in plan with a concrete foundation, red brick walls, and a flat roof. A pair of metal security doors is located in the center of the south elevation; this entrance features a modestly decorative brick surround with contrasting stone squares at the corners. Matching brick and stonework is located in surrounds that encompass each façade of the building. The front doors are accessed via a set of concrete steps with newer metal handrails on each side. The building sits on top of a concrete dam, although all electrical generating equipment was removed from the facility in 1964.
