Additional Information: | This two-and-one-half story house is oriented on an east/west axis and faces east. It rises from what appears to be a stucco-covered foundation, the same type of material from which the three front porch posts seem to be constructed. The first floor of the house is sheathed with narrow, aluminum siding and appears to have all newer windows – at least on the east and south sides. The second floor is covered with what may well be stained, cedar shingles. The gabled peak continues to use cedar shingle sheathing and is notable for its prominent clipped gable. Most windows on the second floor look to be original. The wooden steps ascending the porch, in addition to the porch itself – both the full-width porch on the first floor and the one-half-width porch on the second floor – are all replacements. The front doors (one for each flat) are off-set to the right (north) of the porch, to the left (south) of which is a window unit of four double-hung sashes, again, all replacements. A similar, four window combination is found on the second floor immediately above (to the left [south] of the balcony), the two outer sashes being six-over-one lights while the two inner sashes are one-over-one. The windows themselves, and their surrounds, appear to be original. A three sash, window unit is in the gable, centered immediately below the clipped gable. Windows on the southside of the house appear to be more regularly-placed than those on the north. John Popp owned this house when it was constructed in 1922. It was a frame structure that then consisted of two flats and cost $6,000. The second floor flat was subsequently divided in 1940 into two apartments when owned by David Becker. |
