Additional Information: | •Johnson Family Vault (1865) (The following information, including any bibliographic entries [see above], was taken directly from the Determination of Eligibility for Calvary Cemetery, prepared in 2013 by Mead & Hunt, Madison.) Built into another hill at the center of the cemetery, the Johnston Family Vault appears to be the first of its kind in the cemetery. It features a flattened stone arch supported by square columns. It is flanked by two-stepped retaining walls. The entrance is a central arch supported by two square pilasters. On either side of the door are two arched niches. The tomb was built for Alexander H. Johnston, who started the A. H. Johnston Confectionery & Biscuit Company, which would become the Robert A. Johnston Company. |
