Additional Information: | 2024: The house is a two-story Colonial/Georgian Revival structure that employs a side gable form, the gables being set off by modestly-sized returns. Beneath the roof’s eaves and returns is a plain frieze. The building is situated on the north side of Wisconsin Avenue, oriented on an east/west axis, faces south, and has about a 75-foot setback. Sheathed with red brick laid in a running bond, the symmetry of the structure is striking. Additionally are all corners of the house embellished by quoins that nominally project and are constructed of the same brick as the house’s sheathing. Centered in the primary façade is a nominally projecting gabled wall in which the front door is located. The door is framed by fluted pilasters and a frieze, above which is a swan’s neck pediment. Directly above the pediment is a second floor, six-over-six-light, double hung window. Flanking the projecting wall gable is a single first and second floor window. First floor windows are eight-over-twelve-light, double-hung sashes while those on the second floor are eight-over-eight-light, double-hung sashes. All five are embellished with shutters. Additionally are all window sills of brick headers laid vertically. The east and west endwalls of the house both have chimneys centered on them, each chimney being flanked by single, first and second floor windows. This was another D.V. Jennings house, though it was constructed in 1937 by contractor Dirk Wiersma. Likely completed around the end of 1937, and with a general value of about $11,000, the house was held by Fred W. Keller and his wife, Mary, in 1939. They retained the property until sometime between 1955 and 1957. Keller was in some level of management in 1941 though, after the war, he moved to the Veterans Administration where he remained until at least 1955. George E. Hall acquired the house thereafter and was the owner of record in 1957 and 1961. Hall was an Allis Chalmers salesman in the former year, and a Regional Sales Manager in the latter. |
