NOTES
Additional Information:St. John the Baptist Catholic Church was established by German and Irish immigrants in 1850 and had constructed a church building by 1859. The location of the church was originally in Kellogg’s Corners in the Town of Somers; however, disputes between the German and Irish parishioners divided the congregation, and the German members moved their church site to the Town of Paris. A new Romanesque Revival style brick church was constructed in 1912. Most of the labor was done by parishioners, and the stained-glass windows were imported from Germany. The building was completed for $18,000 and soon a school was added in 1924. In 1951, the church was renovated with a new heating plant and kitchen while a large school addition was also completed. The interior of the sanctuary was renovated in 1961, and the adjacent cemetery was added to the church complex.
