Additional Information: | 2023: The A. Streich and Brothers Warehouse is a Twentieth Century Commercial style three-part block type building constructed in 1919. The warehouse block is rectangular in plan and stands four stories tall of brick construction. The principal elevation is composed of three bays. Pilasters delineate each bay and lead upward through the three characteristic design zones of the block. Raised brick belt courses delineate the street-level, mid-level, and upper design zones. The block is crowned with an austere parapet indicative of the style. In 2021, redevelopment of the former warehouse block into an apartment building began. As part of the redevelopment, the storefront along S. Main Street was removed and converted to window openings set on corbelled bulkheads. The original windows in the principal elevation were replaced with one-over-one aluminum sash windows that are dissimilar in material and configuration. Additionally, the historically unfenestrated north and south elevations have been altered with windows placed in 9 and 10 evenly spaced bays, respectively. The warehouse is associated with the A. Streich Brothers wagon manufacturing company which operated in the City of Oshkosh from 1856 to 1946 when the factory was purchased by Miles Kimball Company. |
