Additional Information: | 2023 - Edmund Delwiche and his family settled in rural Brown County outside of the Town of Preble in 1909 and established a large farm. Delwiche was an active agronomist who produced numerous publications and led the northern branches of the University of Wisconsin Agricultural Experiment Station from the 1910s to the 1940s. The farm included over 200 acres of land, a barn, agricultural outbuildings, and a house. The farm was the site of several experiments that resulted in new disease resistant strains of peas, wheat, barley, oats, and soybean crops. Later, the farm shifted to dairy production and after Edmund’s retirement, his four sons took over operations of the farm and established a creamery called the Delwiche Farms Dairy in 1939. A large processing facility was constructed in 1945. Delwiche Farms Dairy became one of the leading producers of milk for the greater Green Bay area until 1969 when it was sold. The building was purchased by Massart Auctioneers for use as an auction house. Large additions and extensive alterations to the building were completed in 1987. |
