NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. TWO STORY PORCH. Additional map code: DOT 40. 2018 This two-story, rectangular-plan, Greek Revival house was constructed in 1856.22 The walls are clad in vinyl siding and it rests on concrete-block foundation. The cross-gable roof is clad in asphalt shingles. A full-height porch with a pediment spans the front (west) facade. The porch is supported by chamfered columns and shelters a recessed entrance door framed by sidelights and a picture window with a transom on the first story. The windows are generally six-over-six, double-hung, vinyl, replacement sash framed by decorative shutters. When the house was surveyed in 1983, the porch featured a second-story floor with a spindle railing, but it has since been removed. An attached garage addition is located at the rear (east) elevation. The house was the home of Ammah Andrews, one of the earliest settlers in Hudson. In addition to serving as one of the town’s early leaders, Andrews was an architect who designed both public and private buildings in Hudson in the latter half of the nineteen century, often working with his twin brother Amasa. One of his earliest designs was for the St. Croix County Courthouse, completed in 1857 (nonextant). Although he constructed buildings in other styles, he was known for his Greek Revival residences.[1}
