NOTES
Additional Information:Recommendation write-up from the 2019 City of New Berlin Survey: Circular in plan, this two-story, flat-roofed school building is sheathed with both brick and stone veneers. A pair of mushroom columns supports a flat-roofed entrance overhang that shelters a run of metal-framed, glass doors. Two-story expanses of metal-framed windows are located at regular increments around the building, with a single row of additional windows located above the entrance area. Only one new window opening is seen along the street elevation, north of the entrance. A historic photo of the school indicates that every other full vertical division above the entrance may have originally included windows; however, it is difficult to discern. Glen Park School opened on 8 February 1966 to 640 seventh and eighth grade students; however, dedication was not held until 20 March 1966. Personal typing was added to the curriculum, while foreign language programs were stepped up. Previously foreign language teachers had to travel between schools. The school’s circular design, completed by Raymond Le Vee & Associates of Appleton, was noted as the first of its kind in the area. In 1986, Glen Park middle school students were moved to the New Berlin West High School building and some K-6 students were shifted to Glen Park from Orchard Lane and Elm Grove School. In 2012, the School Board voted to close Glen Park Elementary School, with the approximately 300 students sent to either Orchard Lane, Elmwood or Ronald Reagan Elementary schools for the Fall 2012 term. Since 2015, the building has operated as a middle/high school of Heritage Christian Schools, which purchased the building in 2014. Heritage Christian School was founded in 1973 as Bethel Christian Academy and was associated with Bethel Baptist Church at N. 76th Street & W. Luscher Avenue. Two years later, the school incorporated as Heritage Christian Schools, a non-denominational K-8 school, which later expanded to include high school education.
