Additional Information: | 2016-The home located at 152 E Follet is a one and half story Craftsman style home-built ca. 1905. It has a cross gabled roof covered in asphalt shingles. The exterior is clad in what appears to be wooden clapboard siding. A small, single story addition protrudes out of the front façade with a small covered entry. As is typical for the Craftsman style, the home has low hanging eaves and decorative braces are visible under the gables of the main house and front addition roof. The first floor, front façade includes large, square cottage style windows with a decorative transom above a broad bottom pane of glass. The windows on the first floor on both sides of the home are narrower but are also of the cottage style with the decorative transom above a large pane of glass. The half story windows are double hung with no transoms. The home sits upon a full basement with a stone brick foundation. A small, uncovered deck has been recently added on the east side of the home of the side entrance. The home was originally owned by Darwin and Anna Follett, a prominent and well-respected family of the area. Carl (Phil) Congdon married the daughter of Darwin Follett, Ada Mae, in the home located at 152 Follett Street in 1940. Phil's father owned an electroplating business in Chicago, at which Phil worked. Once married, Phil assumed management of the Coloma Mercantile, part of the Follett Company. He operated the grocery, dry goods and hardware store until retiring in 1977. Ada Mae was a music teacher in the Westfield School District. Their son, Thomas, assumed ownership and still owns it to this day. |
