Additional Information: | Architectural Statement: Description: The building is a two story frame house constructed in the Italianate style. It has a low pitch gable roof with ridge perpendicular to the street. Each floor has three openings on the west front elevation. On the second floor, the windows are symmetrically spaced; this is reflected on the first floor by the two windows, but the door is located to one side. All the openings are segmental arch with window hoods. A small oval window is set in the center of the gable at the attic level. The building has horizontal wood siding and remains essentially unchanged on the exterior. (1982 photo - 36/38). Significance: The simple Italianate house is a good example of the few remaining early residential buildings on North Third Street. Although unembellished, it is a handsome design and represents the earliest construction period on the street. Locally designated district: 11/12/85. Historical Statement: The house was constructed circa 1870. Excellent example of a small frame dwelling that was originally intermixed with the small brick stores along this portion of Third Street. A rare example surviving in nearly original condition. |
