Additional Information: | 2018- The Mud Creek Bridge is located in the Town of Grand Chute, Outagamie County. Its construction date, engineer, and contractor are not known. The structure is a rubble-fieldstone, segmental-arch bridge with blocky, straight, stone railings and limestone voussoirs. Springing about 18 inches above the waterline, the arch rises about 7 ft. over a span of about 26 ft. There is a wing wall at the southwest corner. The abutments have shallow, stone foundations, which, at the southwest side of the arch, are undermined by scour. The bridge’s length is about 37 feet; its width about 22 feet. The rubble-fieldstone masonry, gravity abutments, and stone railings resemble the vernacular, contractor-designed bridges of Price County erected during the period 1905-1910. This style is totally dissimilar to other surviving Outagamie stone-arch bridges, which are rubble-limestone, engineer-designed structures. The bridge follows a hiking trail across Mud Creek on a plot of land owned by Outagamie County near the current Fox Valley Technical College. Formerly, the area was part of the Outagamie County Farm and Asylum for the Insane. stone arch bridge |
