Additional Information: | 2019 - This modern apartment complex was constructed in 1965. Originally called the Riviera Apartments, it was purchased in 1968 and has since been part of a larger complex of apartment buildings known as Monona Lakeview (see also AHI #237984 and 237986). The architect is unknown. The former Riviera Apartments building has a U-shaped footprint, a mixture of brick and random ashlar stone veneer, and an overhanging flat roof. The two-story Monona Drive façade is symmetrical. The projecting central bay has six regularly spaced horizontal sliding windows on each story. To either side is a recessed glass-walled entrance bay. The three-story side elevations, including those on the interior of the U facing the courtyard, have an alternating fenestration pattern that includes flush horizontal sliding windows, horizontal sliding windows on projecting angled bays, and three-part units with a central fixed pane and flanking casements. The rear elevation faces Lake Monona and features three-story porches with metal support posts and geometric railings. |
