NOTES
Additional Information:"Milwaukee's first public high school opened on the east side in the 1860's and enrolled pupils from throughout the community. In 1891 south side parents agreed on the desirability of having their children attend classes closer to home and by 1893 had persuaded the school board to build a high school at South 7th and West Madison Streets (later the Eugene Field School). Increasing enrollments soon taxed this facility, however, and led to construction of South Division High at the turn of the century." Pagel, Mary Ellen & Virginia A. Palmer, University Extension University of Wisconsin, Guides to Historic Milwaukee: Walker's Point and South, 1969.
