Bibliographic References:A portion of this building was built between 1910 and 1911 and operated as a steam laundry; it was expanded by no later than 1924, Tax Rolls, City of Prairie du Chien, 1910, 1911; Sanborn Fire Insurance Map of Prairie du Chien, Wis., 1912, 1924. The parapet front was not added until 1932, at which time a log veneer was applied, after which it functioned as the Kaber Cafe, Sanborn Fire Insurance Map of Prairie du Chien, Wis., 1924 updated to 1943; “Cliff Kaber Stepping into Dad’s Shoes at Kaber Café,” The Courier, 20 August 1935, 1; Ted Pennekamp, “End of An Era for Popular Prairie du Chien Restaurant, New Chapter Ready to Begin,” Prairie du Chien Courier-Press, 24 June 2013, 1-2.
