Additional Information: | The Price Electric Cooperative building was constructed c.1960 and has an irregular plan on a concrete foundation and a flat roof. The building is primarily clad in brick, with some masonry details. The eastern bay consists of the main office and can be accessed via a central entryway that faces southeast; the bay is clad in rough-cut stone with a replacement plate-glass primary door that rests in a downsized opening filled in with wood shingles. To the south of the entryway, the building has three, one-over-one, replacement windows in downsized openings that rest on rough-cut stone sills. A recessed entry faces northwest and provides access to the rear, with two paired original casement windows. Plate-glass windows and fixed windows are to the west of the main entrance. A rough-cut stone pilaster separates the office bay from the original garage bay. This segment is clad in brick with five garage bays. A vinyl-clad garage addition is to the northwest of the original garages, and the addition contains four more garage bays. The Price Electric Cooperative formed out of a movement to bring electricity to rural communities in the 1930s. Like other Rural Electric Cooperatives that began during this period, Price Electric Cooperative was owned by the people who would directly benefit from access to electricity rather than by utility investors. The cooperative began operating from the North Lake Avenue building in the 1960s. |
