NOTES
Additional Information:Constructed of concrete and faced with cement board panels, this one-story, rectangular banking facility is topped with a flat roof. Oriented on a northwest/southeast axis, a drive-through facility extends from the building’s southeast end. A large, rectangular expanse of glass is located at the approximate center of the structure and provides a view into the bank proper. To the northwest is a recessed, double-door, glassed entrance. A narrow band of windows extends to the northwest (left) from the doorway and around the slightly curved wall. The reverse side includes an exposed lower level, which includes a series of large windows. Permits from 1979, 1984 and 1988 substantiate the interior alterations found on both levels.

The Brown Deer Bank was established in 1958, with a capital stock of $280,000. Prior to building a new banking facility in 1976-77 at the subject intersection of W. Brown Deer Road and N. Cedarburg Road, it operated at 4455 W. Bradley Road. The architectural firm responsible for its design was Brust-Zimmerman of Milwaukee and the firm received an award in 1977 for the bank’s design. The jury was recorded as saying that it was “one of the nicest, free standing, modest sized, drive-up banks it has seen.” In 1988, Brown Deer Bank was acquired by First Bank and the name changed to First Bank Brown Deer. Thereafter, the institution was acquired by US Bank, which it remains today. While the entire building was originally utilized by the bank, a portion of its lower-level space is rented out.
