Additional Information: | CARMELITE SISTERS OF THE DIVINE HEART OF JESUS PROVINCIAL MOTHERHOUSE. ATTACHED TO ST. JOSEPH'S BOY HOME. The Carmelite Home for Boys, operated by the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus, was established in Milwaukee in 1916 and constructed a home for orphan and homeless boys in Wauwatosa in 1917. In 1936, a new building was constructed to house up to forty rooms. The orphanage has been expanded and altered considerably since its construction, notably in 1967, when the building doubled in size with a large contemporary addition and a residential treatment center for adolescents. Operating as an orphanage for all ages of boys, the institution switched to focus on treatment in the 1970s. |
