Additional Information: | 2016- "Constructed c.1948, this enameled steel Lustron house has a rectangular plan and rests on a poured concrete foundation. The front-gable roof is covered in enameled steel tiles and features narrow eaves and a square, enameled, steel chimney at the ridgeline. The main (north) elevation has a recessed porch that features a metal corner post and corrugated plastic sheets have been added to enclose the north side of the porch. The walls are clad in enameled steel tiles and the windows are vinyl, one-over-one, double-hung sash. The side (east) elevation features a box bay with a pair of replacement windows. This house was produced by the Lustron Corporation, which was developed in the post-World War II era in response to the housing shortage for returning GIs. Carl Strandlund formed the Lustron Corporation in 1947 and designed the durable, baked-on porcelain enamel finish to attract modern families who would not have to undertake conventional home maintenance and repair. Lustron homes were produced with efficient assembly-line techniques and boasted a care-free living experience for homeowners. The Lustron house is potentially significant in architecture and engineering for its associations with innovative construction and style in post-World War II prefabricated housing." -"STH 23: County Shop Rd to Minerva St", WisDOT#5245-02-02/72 and 5245-02-02/73, Prepared by Mead & Hunt, Inc., (2016). |
