| Additional Information: | 1975--SECOND STORY WITH DECORATIVE CORBEL TABLE, Segall's Department Store in building. 2010: This two-story, commercial vernacular, brick-faced building features a decorative, corbelled brickwork cornice along its upper edge. The first-floor storefront features two recessed entries and all of the windows are replacements that include faux, applied paning. Despite the altered first floor, the upper level maintains all three of its tripartite windows. A 1975 WHS survey card provides the evidence for the wholesale storefront replacement; the card also shows the circa-1940 Art Deco signage that formerly hung from the side of the building and identified the structure as Segall's Department Store. Statement of Significance Research reported in 1947 cites that this building was erected by Anton Kubiak and was operated as the White Garage. Indeed, the 1924-25 Wisconsin State Gazetteer lists the White Garage Motor Company as a business in Pulaski. The structure continued to operate as a garage under the subsequent ownership of John Peplinski, after which it was remodeled for use as Segall's Department Store, with a portion of the structure also serving as the local post office. The building is currently largely vacant. |
