NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property named 'Wausau Municipal Airport'. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Runway 13/31W is a sea lane runway and is not visually marked or mapped on aeronautical charts. However, the sea lane is parallel to the 13/31 asphalt runway and extends 8000x300 feet through the Lake Wausau channel between the airport property and the Town of Rib Mountain. The seaplane ramp on the southern shoreline of the airport property is accessible via a locked gate in the chain link perimeter fence. A seaplane base was first installed at this site using WPA funds in 1936, consisting of a ramp and dock. The ramp and dock were rebuilt at the same location in 2000. At that time, concrete planks were installed, extending from underneath the water level to approximately a quarter of the way up the incline. A steel and wood float dock was also constructed. The ramp area is currently overgrown with weeds. Many of the concrete planks installed in 2000 are obscured or in some cases removed and piled to the side of the incline. The dock has been pulled out of the water and also rests on the side of the ramp area. 2016- "Runway 13/31W and Seaplane Ramp (1936) Runway 13/31W is a sea lane runway, not visually marked or mapped on aeronautical charts. Although the seaplane base is in poor condition, the historic location of the base remains the same, and was an important feature in the Wausau Municipal Airport's history. For this reason, the ramp and sea lane are considered a contributing site." -"Wausau Municipal Airport", WisDOT# FOS 0737-51-09 (AIP 03-55-0093-09), Prepared by Kelly Noack, (2016).
