Additional Information: | 2017- "Topped with a flat roof, this one-story commercial building features a storefront block and a taller garage/warehouse block. The main entrance is recessed within the west facade which also includes a wraparound window opening infilled with wooden siding and smaller plate-glass windows. A plain wooden cornice lies at the top of the storefront elevation. Meanwhile, the garage block contains a wooden overhead garage door, a standard-sized entrance and "WEST SIDE BATTERY AND ELECTRIC SERVICE" executed in raised letters. Four openings on the south elevation are downsized with wooden infill and small windows. This building was constructed in 1953 as the second home of West Side Battery & Electric Service. The company was founded in 1934 by Roland Zerneke. The business originally rebuilt alternators and starters and ultimately sold and repaired lawn and garden equipment. It remained in the Zerneke family until it closed in 2016." -"S. 1st Ave: Thomas St-Stewart Ave", WisDOT#6999-18-13, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd. (Faltinson), (2017). |
