Bibliographic References:Whitcomb Phelps to F.I. Phelps, Warranty Deed, 27 March 1882, 55/351. Lots 1-8 **5 January 1880 is also reference as a date; note that Whitcomb died on 18 June 1891. House identified (cor. L and Second St.), as the home of F. I. Phelps, Lumberman, Supply agent for the East Fork Logging Co., on 1884 Birdseye Map of Onalaska. Biographical entry for Phelps in Biographical History of La Crosse, Trempeleau and Buffalo Counties, Wisconsin, 1892, 348-49. Phelps was born on 4 July 1843 and died on 25 June 1917. As of 1892 he was not married but as of the 1900 census, he was married to Anna (age 40). Anna, born 5 April 1860, remained in the house until her death on 4 December 1940.
