Additional Information: | 2016- "This county airport was originally constructed in 1965. According to tax records, the airport grounds are comprised of a number of parcels totaling almost 600 acres. The grounds encompass the structures associated with airport functions as well as the runways and clear zones for approaches. The terminal building is a one-story structure of concrete block with a gabled roof, constructed between 1965 and 1970. It is rectangular in plan with a metal entry door at the northeast corner. The interior features a waiting room and service desk with a private office behind. In front of the service desk is a large plate glass window flanked by a pair of 1-over-1 double hung windows that look south toward the taxiing area and runways. All other window bays consist of a single or pair of single-paned casement windows. The only decorative elements on the terminal building exterior are the tan brick sills underneath each window opening and wooden shingles in the peak of the gables. The oldest hangars on the airport property were also built between 1965 and 1970 and are located east of the terminal building. Hangar 1 is approximately 30 X 40 feet, with the main elevation facing east toward the taxiway. Hangar 2 is approximately 40 X 40 feet, with the main elevation facing west toward the same taxiway. Both hangars have metal gabled roofs and manual sliding doors on their main elevations. The earliest runway on the airport property is the Asphalt Runway 16/34, running northwest to southeast. In 1965 this was a dirt runway, but was paved by 1970 and extended over time to its current length of 4435 feet. The second runway on the airport property was also constructed prior to 1970, consisting of turf and spanning northeast to southwest. Between 1986 and 2006, this runway was paved, and extended further east in 2007 to its current length of 6000 feet. The remaining 14 structures on the grounds are metal hangars, likely constructed within the last 40 years, featuring electric folding bay doors on their main elevations and metal roofs. Smaller entry doors are generally located to one side of the main elevations." - "Taylor County Airport AIS 3-55-0041-09", WisDOT #FOS 0760-40-09, Prepared by Kelly Noack (2016). |
