Additional Information: | 2015- "The oldest portion of Beaver Dam Middle School was constructed in 1922 as the city’s high school. It is a three-story, brick, rectangular block with a six-bay-wide symmetrical façade oriented parallel to 4th Street. The outer two bays are projecting, Collegiate Gothic-inspired entrance towers, each featuring corner brick pilasters, ornate stone accents, and a recessed Gothic-arch doorway within a stone portal. Each of the four interior bays contains sets of windows, one per floor. A set comprises five windows, each consisting of a lower one-over-one sash portion with a fixed transom light above. This building became the junior high school in 1957 after construction of a new high school was completed. The school’s footprint has been tripled in recent decades as a result of large additions in 1990 and c.2000 to the north and east. They are essentially windowless brick blocks, apart from a one-story section near the intersection of 4th Street and North Spring Street, which contains a series of one-over-one sash windows. Embellishment on the additions is limited to plain stone coursing and stone coping. An entrance was also added on the front, 4th Street side of the school featuring a segmental arch doorway and stepped parapet." - "N Spring St/Business USH 151, Maple Av to Mackie St", WISDot #3803-00-64, Prepared by Commonwealth Cultural Resources (CCRG), (2015). |
