The Gillett Milling Company complex consists of two mill/elevator buildings and several associated warehouses arranged along the south side of the former C&NW rail corridor immediately east of STH 22. The eastern of the two mill/elevator buildings, this subject property was constructed as the J.M. Ankerson Elevator in 1912 , and has a concrete foundation, walls clad in corrugated metal, and a compound gable roofline covered with standing seam metal. A small gable monitor and concrete chimney project above the central portion of the roof, and modern lift and mixing machinery is mounted on the side of the monitor. A concrete loading dock spans the south elevation, sheltered by a shed roof overhang. A sliding freight door is centered on the rear (north) elevation of the mill. A one-story office wing clad in corrugated metal projects on the west (side) elevation; the portion visible in the historic photograph has been extended on the west end and the west elevation is of concrete block with tile coping. Two warehouses extend from the east (side) elevation of the mill in a linear fashion; the c.1912 western warehouse is covered with corrugated metal siding, and the c.1940 eastern warehouse has concrete block walls and rests on cylindrical concrete footings. A concrete partition wall with a stepped parapet and tile coping separates the two warehouses.

Herman and Fred Bruemmer constructed the earliest flouring mill in Gillett (nonextant) in the late 1880s on the shore of Savage Lake; the property operated until the mid-1920s. J.M. Ankerson constructed the subject property in 1912 and also acquired the Bruemmer Mill, which was destroyed by a fire in 1967. The subject property continues to function as a feed mill.
