Additional Information: | 2015 This one-and-one-half-story, gable ell house was constructed in 1900. The walls are brick masonry and rest on a brick foundation. Asphalt shingles cover the gable roof, which displays wide eave overhangs with an exposed wood cornice. An interior cement block chimney is located in the ell portion of the residence. Windows are replacement, one-over-one, double-hung sash with one large fixed pane on the west side of the front (south) facade. Decorative cream brick accents surround the door and window openings and spell “1900” in the gable end. Textured brick panels are located beneath the lower-story windows and the date. Non-original asphalt-shingled awnings are mounted over two entrances on the front facade, and a one-story shed-roof addition is located on the rear (north) elevation. A one-story, full-width porch indicated in 1929 Sanborn maps has been removed from the facade. A c.2000 two-bay detached garage, sided in vinyl, stands to the east of the house. A c.1945 wooden shed with a gambrel roof is located just north of the garage. The decorative red and cream brickwork on this residence is consistent with a tradition among Belgian settlers in nearby Brown, Kewaunee, and Door Counties. It is likely that this house was either built by Belgians or influenced by their distinctive style. |
