Additional Information: | This one-story, flat-roofed gas station/service station is largely constructed of concrete block; however, the Durand Avenue elevation is faced with what appears to be porcelainized enamel panels. The sales office is located at the north corner of the building and the west elevation of the office has been covered over with metal. The primary elevation consists of three, large, overhead garage doors, while a human-scale door is found adjacent to the east garage bay opening. Assessor’s records identify a 1940 date of construction; however, it is more likely that the existing structure achieved its current appearance at some point in the 1950s, up to 1960. As of 1961, directories identify this as E & W Auto Service. It is later found to serve as a Texaco gas station (in 1965) and, later, as a Union 76 station (in 1972), along with Dean’s Wheel Alignment and Brake Service. |
